Things that make me Happy!

I was nominated by Lilisblissfulpages to list 50 things that make me happy

Check out her blog for read book insights and also the Read-A-Thon (Did you just rename it?) 24 hours of straight reading! I have yet to make it that long haha!

This is really a good time of year to be thinking of these things in our lives. We just pasted Thanksgiving in the states and we are coming up on Christmas. These last few years it has been good to focus on non-material things since I haven’t had the money to buy my family any gifts. I always tell them to not get me anything either. It really is nice just to be with them. I have brothers that I rarely get to see and most of the time they don’t come to Christmas so it tends to just be me and my parents.

So lets see how far I get down this list of 50!

  1. Dogs- and honestly animal in general. I love my four rescues and they are really like my children.

    17917145_10100278720081045_4042463307483811412_o
So freaking cute! The white fluff is my first adopted one when I lived in Korea πŸ˜€
  2. Writing- It is always fun to put down writing as something that makes me happy. Because if you write (hey bloggers) you know how frustrating writing can be. How you find that you used the word slowly 175 times in your manuscript. When you just can’t seem to put a comma in the write place. Also when you stare at a blank screen and those damn words just don’t seem to cooperate. Then in the end you struggled through those 500 words and you find that really fun moment where you realize you are doing something you love. Yes, happiness is a funny word to describe writing but in the end things in our life that make us happy are things we work for.
  3. My room- I get my own writing room. It really is nice to close the door and be able to have some focus
  4. Theatre- I used to act and I loved it. I still find so much magic in going to live theatre.
  5. Slow snow- Nothing is more peaceful than slow falling snow. It just kind of sparkles.
  6. Anime- Yeah this will always pop up. The stories, the characters, the abs… There really is something for everyone. I just wrote a post on why I love anime. I’m just always happy that I found it.
  7. Urban Fantasy- Gosh I love this genre. The sarcasm really is right up my alley. The action the bit of darkness. The struggle of the characters. It is something I will always enjoy reading.
  8. YA Fantasy- This is a genre that has grown so much and I wish I had this many amazing and diverse books to read when I was a teen. I love the fact that it is something that can be enjoyed for any age and there is something for everyone.
  9. The manga Mars- This was a manga that put me in a reading slump for over a month. The longest ever. Nothing I read could compare to it. I loved the tragic characters. The story. The relationship. It really hit me in a hard way and I want to reread it but I also don’t want to…
  10. Ella Enchanted- This is a ya book that I read every year. I love fractured fairy tales and I love Cinderella stories. Something about an underdog you know? This was one of the first books I read as a young girl that had this spunky female lead. I think before I was used to reading about “nice girls” I loved the character. I think it is safe to say that you will see a bit of Ella in a lot of my female characters. But with more swearing…
  11. Chocolate – This makes me a bit too happy and I think I enjoy it too much.
  12. Hak- Also I have a full post about my husbando.
    7970154030fcf5cd5cde945e775812667c70ccf7_hq
But in case you forgot… ha

    13. Christmas trees- I don’t have one up in my house but honestly I can stare at a Christmas tree for hours. I don’t know what it is about the lights or the tree or the memories in the ornaments. It just makes me feel so happy!

14. The aniblogger community- It makes me so happy to take about anime on here. I don’t get to talk about it much in my life. I’m just so happy I have a safe place to write about anime and talk about it with others.

15. Is this the place where I have to list individual anime? hahaha Honestly 50 things isn’t much but it is a lot to write.

16. Warm socks – My feet are usually really hot but dang in the winter cozy socks are amazing!

17. Writing Conferences- I’m so lucky to go to places that really recharge me as a writer. A place where I met other writers and we check in with each other. I hope you have found a small group of other people that encourage you with what you love to do. If you don’t you can always send me a message and we can talk! I’m awkward but I love to hear about what you love!

18. The fact that I can’t make it to 50 since I rambled on too much but I know you all won’t judge me. Right?

Thank you you again to Lili for the nomination and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to doing this post.

So take some time in this holiday season to think about the things that make you happy!

When you are no longer the best

In episode six of Run with the Wind I really am enjoying the inner conflict with Kakeru. He and Haiji are the only two serious/previous runners from before this team was formed.

In an earlier episode it seemed that Kakeru was starting to accept his rag tag teammates but this episode shows their first actual track meet.

Kakeru mostly has a stoic face and you could see is frustartion at the start of the meet when his teammate were taking photos and Prince was reading a manga.

In the past episode he stood up for his team but now in front of other and more professional teams he seemed a bit embarrassed.

Snort… I’m two okay…

Kakeru is used to being on his own. He laps and outranked his past teammates from high school. I liked the moment when he realized that he himself still has a lot to overcome and he is no longer the fastest runner.

He loses to two of the more famous runners and they outstripped him by quite a bit. At this point he starts to take his frustrations out on his team. For the first time he isn’t a winner and it really affects him.

In the end the leader of the other track team tells Kakeru to help Haiji lead the team. To work with him and help the others. For Kakeru who runs alone this is something that builds up conflict inside of him. He did stand up for his teammates in the past but I don’t think he respects them.

He needs to be able to work with others and start to recognize that his teammates are trying the best they can.

Even if the mountain may be out of reach there is no shame in reaching for it.

This was a great episode and this show continues to impress me.

Now your weekly moments with Prince…

We are proud of you Prince! Even though they told him to drop out he still kept running!

The book world is a happy place to be

When you need something more

My weekly insight on Run With the Wind is late this week. I’m sorry about that but honestly it gave me a bit of time to think about what I wanted to say.

This episode six focused on King and I think this episode really could speak to a lot of those who are in their college or after college life.

img_0427

We are often told that we can do or be whatever we want. Honestly I fall a bit into the dreamer side of the world. I also have a mean realistic streak. King is trying is hardest to interview and find a job after his time in the university. He wants to make money and he doesn’t seem to care what job he gets as long as he gets one.

This is honestly a fact of life. We want to have that security of a job.

img_0429

I have pushed aside my dreams for most of my life. Make money writing and selling books? Nah. I needed to find a job to support my “hobby” and that led to me not writing. I like to do things always on the extreme side. All or nothing baby!

Now that I’m at the point where I can find a happy medium between writing and teaching. I’ve noticed that my depression has faded. There are some days where writing still gets cut out but I’m working to make it a priority. Writing isn’t easy and it is funny that I can find happiness in something that can be so frustrating.

img_0433

Because seeing the reason that King decided to run really ran a bit true. He needed something else in his life. Running will help him handle the stress of the job and the job hunt. It is something to do that brings joy and a release of stress.

Now, I can argue the fact that running wasn’t really his own choice. However, it is a nice statement that we really need to have something in our lives that gives us happiness.

We can get wrapped up in our jobs and day to day stresses. Those thing never really go away. If you are in a job that is your dream hold onto that sucker until the day you die. I can hope that one day my my books will support me enough but until then I can enjoy the moments where I can set aside time to write. It is a frustrating wonderful thing, writing, but it really is fulfilling.

Now for your weekly prince update….

The sound of the bow

Sometimes you look forward to something so much that you are disappointed when you finally see it.

Well in my mind Tsurune delivered on my expectations.

First off I know this may seem a bit silly but I’m writing a ya fantasy right now and the main weapon is a long bow like the one they use in Tsurune. So now I can double my research for my blog and my book. WIN!

Second I’ve become a full blow sports anime fan and when I see interesting characters and a sport that I don’t know much about I really now am interested.

I want to learn about sports.

Whoa…

Who am I?

Sports anime really has a way to make even the smallest rule exciting. I guess they need to make and anime about going to the dentist or something.

What really made me excited is the start of a conflict from the very beginning between Minato and Takehaya. You get the impression that they were friends at one point. Minato isn’t openly hostile but you can tell that he really doesn’t want to talk to his old friend.

They meet on the opening day of their new high school and right away they are recruiting to revive the school archery club. This premise really isn’t new in sports anime but honestly it is the characters that really always sell it to me.

They are all different and from the start their personalities really shine.

You know and can relate to what Minato is going through. I think when you have suffered trauma it is always the things we love that struggle. Through this we want to see him be successful with something he loves and I’m looking forward to watching him grow and hopefully overcome his pain.

My favorite character so far is the guy with the sour face Kaito.

I really relate to him on a personal level.

And I really never say this in any of my blogs because it sometimes just adds to the emotion and I never think of it but the music… It was stunning. The simple notes played out while Minato when home and was alone. While he road his bike… I can’t really do it justice but I really am a fan of the score so far.

And…

Look what I found…

Mhmm Beautiful draw there…

The owl is judging me.

In the end I’m really excited about this show and I hope it continues with making the characters and their personal conflicts engaging. This has topped my list so far with new anime this fall and I hope you give it a chance!

Still Creeped out from Puppets? Check.

I don’t really watch scary shows. But what someone else finds scary and I what I find scary will differ. If it will keep me up at night I give it a wide birth. I tend to stay away from things that involve ghosts or spirits. Also in anime I have always found dolls to be super creepy (I blame Another). So it is really wise for me to watch a show that is full of puppets…

They really creep me out.

Puppet
Hello nightmare my old friend

There is something about the dead eyes and how they walk in jerky movements. So this first episode of Karakuri Circus had enough to creep me out and I don’t even know if I’m supposed to be scared.

Puppet room
Sorry grandson you will be forever alone. But you’ll have a puppet room…

Apparently all men in Saiga house have a room like that ^^. That is a clear sign for a lady to make a run for it. “Sorry I don’t date men with a creepy puppet room. Bye.” (let’s play a game and see how many times I use the word creepy. How else do you describe puppets?)

Despite me rambling on about creepiness this is an interesting show. It has a lot of things going for it despite a super confusing first episode.

This may be where the manga readers get mad at me for not understanding something. I think the main problem is they are trying to make us care but we really have no set up to why we should care.

character

It starts out with a bunch of people getting killed. We don’t really know why. Then cut to a man in a bear suit trying to get people to go to the circus.

Okay so we’ve moved on from the murders I guess. I don’t know if these were in the future or the past of the show.

A young boy Masaru approaches the man in the bear suit and wonders if he will take him to the circus.

I mean… Kids don’t go up to strangers…

Now suddenly bear guy(Narumi) is trying to protect Masaru from a hoard of creepy puppets. Talk about getting yourself in too deep for a complete strange child.

My main problem is why is this guy suddenly facing death to save a boy? I mean we really don’t know anything about his character but that seems a bit intense to try and risk your life for this kid. I guess if I was ever in trouble I would want to meet him on the street.

Narumi finds out from the kid that he needs to get Shirogane. He has not clue where she is at but she is at a circus. Could be any circus.

Karakuri1-16

This was information shared to him by his grandpa in the creepy puppet room. They are going to find this person and you would assume once that happens Narumi would go back to his life.

Nope.

At the end he is decided to help out this kid. Again, I don’t get his character or motivation. Honestly if he wasn’t in the first episode it would have made it a lot better. I know since he seems to be a main character he can’t just be cut. I really want to know what kind of life he has that he can just get up, drop everything,Β  and go to protect a stranger.

Who can just drop everything like that? I guess he dressed up as a bear for a living so there isn’t a career he’s missing out on. (I’m sorry if that is your occupation I don’t mean to say that what you do isn’t important.)

The things I ended up liking about this anime are… the creepy puppets haha. Oh irony.

The show started to pick up for me when Shirogane used the puppet Arlequin to fight off the men in black puppets.

The used of the strings and the fight were pretty interesting and honestly it was enough to make me stick around for episode two.

I’m hoping that this is just a case of trying to shove too much into one episode. Where they couldn’t properly set up any motivation for the side characters. You really don’t want the last five minutes to be the only good part of a first episode. I have a feeling they would lose a lot of watchers.

Because I want to care about the kid and the bear man but I really don’t. I do find the “magic” interesting and that is the only reason I will watch another episode.

This one is honestly closest to my drop list at this point but maybe things will get fleshed out in another episode.

And don’t worry that totally isn’t a puppet standing behind you in a dark room. Oh sleep…

Karakuri1-19

Happy watching!

Obsession

It is always good to have healthy obsessions. Right?

56ab102ad4c2e

Wait why does this gif keep popping up in my blogs?

πŸ˜€

In the second episode of Run With the Wind we are really getting a dose of Haiji’s obsession with making the team commit so they can run.

I think inΒ  episode two you can laugh it off as humorous. Honestly the way he goes about getting these nine guys to commit to running can be funny. Then there is the part of me that does think that his obsession is really going to the extreme… I mean we are also talking about running, like physical movement…

original
Wait how cheap is the rent?

I would not feel great if someone would make me run. I’m joining the prince in his pile of books and hiding out.

Part of me is starting to wonder. Is there more to this obsession and selection of guys? Is he just doing it for himself or is he trying to help them too?

My hope is still that he is trying to help the other characters in some way other than giving them great food and physical activity.

two
He knows more than he is saying

Just what is his goal? What does he get from all of this? Why are these certain guys needed?

This anime still has me wondering and asking questions. The right kind of questions where I’m getting more invested.

I want to see these characters come together in a way that gives them a supportive community. I want to see that they are chosen not just because they were athletic in someway (except you literature guy sorry man, good luck).

If this show gives me these things this could really be a great payoff.

Also speaking of obsession… I’m working on my birthday post for tomorrow. Stay tuned for some of my healthy *cough* obsessions πŸ˜‰

Happy Watching!

So you Wanna Watch a Shonen?

What do you expect when you watch a shonen anime? You got to have that world set up and the plucky lead character am I right?

cows
Don’t be fooled we are cows.

Well now I’m going to expect something like elephant cows from here on out.

So the main character Asta oh oops I mean Seth wants to be the very best sorcerer and he likes to steal grimoires from his mentor/guardian Alma.

Now he does have power and Natsu oh oops I mean Seth sometimes ends up destroying things with his power when he is showing off for his young friend. It makes the villagers pretty angry with him and you may understand why they don’t care for sorcerers.

Seth

In this world we do have a set up that Naruto oh oops I mean Seth is going to face discrimination because he can manipulate the power just like the bad guys called the Nemesis that infect others. Apparently he is immune? So he is on his journey to be the best.

It looks like we are going to follow Luffy oh oops I mean Seth on his journey to find out if he can find where the nemesis are created.

So buckle up for one heck of an adventure and honestly just be happy that the yelling is at a minimum.
